Pest Control Information for Atlanta
Like any big city, Atlanta, GA, sees its fair share of bugs and pests. Of course, some bugs are more common than others. Here in the South, we know that our bugs can get pretty large, but none is as common or as unpleasant as the American Cockroach.
American cockroaches vary in color from reddish brown to a deep mahogany. Adults can grow up to 3 inches long. If you’ve lived in the South for any length of time, you’ve probably seen on scurrying along, dashing quickly into a dark crevice to hide out. Hopefully that was outside.
If think you have cockroaches in your home, it’s most likely because you have seen them. They are very fast and will quickly run away into a dark crevice when discovered. If startled they can also fly, though they don’t do it often. Additonal signs of a cockroach infestation include cockroach droppings and egg capsules. Dropping are small and can easily be mistaken for mouse droppings. Look for ridges on the sides and blunt ends. Mice droppings are smooth with pointed ends. Egg cases are about 1.4 inches long, dark reddish or brown in color, and are oblong shaped with what looks like a zipper along the length.
American cockroaches enter home to look for two things: food and water. They can get in under doors if weather stripping is damaged, or through basements, windows, and garages. They will seek out moist, dark areas like behind kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms.
Depending on the severity and specific nature of your infestation, your trained technician from People’s Pest Control may discuss different options to treat the infestation. Your technician will probably choose a combination of control methods.
One method of treating a cockroach infestation is to keep the cockroaches from entering the home in the first place. Your technician can do this by adding weather stripping and caulking and crack or crevices. Another method is keeping the cockroaches from living close to your home by removing dead leaves or mulch where they can hide and nest. Your technician may also apply insecticide inside your home and/or around the outside of your home, as well as special treatments that interfere with the growth cycle of cockroaches inside your home. To catch the cockroaches that are currently in your home, your technician may also place bait and different types of traps.
